Zickelburg

Zickelburg is a 188-meter mountain located at the northwestern edge of the Rheinwesterwälder Vulkanrücken region near Bad Honnef. The hilltop offers views across to Bonn and the distant Eifel mountains, with remnants of older buildings scattered across its slopes.

Two wine estates were established on this site around 1600 and later came under the control of the Jesuit order. The older of these properties was demolished in 1840, marking a turning point in the mountain's development.

The buildings and structures still visible at Zickelburg reflect how the local community once depended on wine production as their main livelihood. Walking through the area, you can see how people adapted their homes and farms to suit the challenging terrain.

You can reach this hilltop by bus using nearby stops such as Sparkasse Krachsnussbaumweg and Selhof Kirche. If you drive, parking is available along Limbicher Weg, making it straightforward to plan a visit.

The mountain is composed of sandy gravel deposits that originated from the Younger Main Terrace formation of the Rhine Valley. This geological makeup is often overlooked but reveals much about how the landscape was shaped by ancient river activity.
