Wurmberg Gondola Lift, Aerial tramway in Braunlage, Germany
The Wurmberg Gondola Lift is an aerial tramway in two sections that connects the Braunlage tourist resort with the mountain summit at 971 meters elevation. The system spans a total of 2.7 kilometers and can transport up to six passengers per cabin.
The facility opened in 1963 and was an early example of modern mountain lift development in the Harz region. Both sections were built by Doppelmayr and have shaped the mountain area since then.
The gondola system is a central hub for winter sports enthusiasts and provides access to multiple ski slopes and the well-known Wurmberg ski jump. Visitors use the facility year-round to explore the mountain or watch competitions.
The valley station is located in a large parking area north of Braunlage and offers direct access to the gondola system. From the middle station, passengers can continue to the upper stations without exiting their cabin.
The system is the longest continuous gondola system in northeastern Germany and allows passengers to travel from valley to peak without changing cabins. This seamless connection was a technical achievement when it first opened.
