Braunlage, Mountain resort municipality in Goslar district, Germany.
Braunlage is a municipality in Goslar district, Germany, sitting at 620 meters (2,030 feet) elevation in the Harz mountains across forested slopes and granite outcrops. The municipal area includes several villages connected by forest roads and trails.
A document from 1227 mentions Brunla for the first time, when mining shaped the area. In 1561 the counts of Blankenburg established ironworks that gave the place an industrial character.
The settlement takes its name from Brunla, an old term pointing to a spring in the area. Today hikers and skiers visit the region, while some villages still maintain their own chapels and guesthouses.
The Wurmberg cable car runs year-round to the summit, giving access to trails and ski slopes. In winter warm clothing is worthwhile, as the elevation brings low temperatures.
Nine villages form the municipality together, including Sankt Andreasberg and Hohegeiß, each preserving its own traditions. Each village has its own center with a church or chapel.
