Alte Bobbahn

The Alte Bobbahn is a hiking trail in Wernigerode that follows the route of a former bobsled racing track through dense forests of the Harz mountains. The path has varying elevations and is shaped by nature and the remaining track structures that are still visible.

The bobsled track was built in the 1920s for winter sports competitions and operated until the 1980s. It was then closed and gradually transformed into a hiking path over time.

The trail reflects the winter sports past of this region, where generations of athletes trained on the bobsled track. Local residents know the history through their families and maintain respect for the athletic legacy that unfolded here.

The trail is accessible year-round and well marked, with parking near the starting point. Several rest areas with benches are distributed along the route to allow for breaks.

Plants and mosses grow through cracks and gaps in the old concrete throughout much of the route, giving the track a wild, natural appearance. This contrast between artificial structure and forest reclamation shows how quickly nature reclaims abandoned places.
