Teufelskanzel, Rock formation on Brocken mountain, Harz District, Germany
The Teufelskanzel granite cliffs rise near the summit of Brocken mountain, reaching an elevation of over 1,000 meters in northern Germany.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe visited this formation during his first winter ascent in 1777, which later influenced scenes in his literary work Faust.
The formation holds significance in German folklore as a gathering place during Walpurgis Night celebrations from April 30 to May 1 each year.
Access to the rock formation requires following marked hiking trails through Harz National Park, with options for guided tours by certified forest rangers.
The site houses protected species of lichens and rare plants like Lycopodium, leading to restricted direct access to preserve these natural elements.
