Königsberg

Königsberg is a summit reaching 1033.5 meters in Wernigerode and stands as the third highest point in the Harz mountains. A long ridge connects this peak from southeast to northwest, marked by several major granite rock formations such as Stangenklippe, Schluftkopf, and Kanzelklippen.

Two historic paths have led to the summit over the centuries: the Old Königsberg Way starting near Eckerloch and the Old Goethe Way from Goetheweg station. These traditional routes continue to shape the climbing experience on this mountain today.

This summit serves as a key landmark in the local hiking culture of the Harz region, where walkers follow established routes to reach its ridge. The peak's granite formations have become a natural gathering point for those exploring the mountain landscape.

The peak sits about 1.5 kilometers south of Brocken, an important reference point for planning your visit. The rocky terrain along the ridge requires care when hiking, especially during changeable weather conditions.

At Rabenklippe, a fireplace has been carved directly into the granite rock, yet its age and purpose remain a mystery. This unusual feature is a rare artifact that hints at unknown stories from the past.
