Roter Bär Pit, Historical mining museum in Sankt Andreasberg, Germany.
The Roter Bär Pit extends deep into the earth, featuring preserved tunnels and chambers that demonstrate traditional ore extraction methods from past centuries.
During its operational period from 1800 to 1860, the mine employed 4 to 6 workers and produced approximately 50 tons of iron ore annually.
The Sankt Andreasberg Society for History and Archaeology maintains the site to educate visitors about mining traditions in the Upper Harz region.
Guided tours through the underground tunnels provide information about mining techniques, geological formations, and the daily routines of miners.
The mine served as a shelter during World War II in April 1945 and now functions as both a museum and winter habitat for bats.
