AOK Verwaltungsgebäude, Heritage administration building at Sternplatz, Dresden, Germany
The AOK Verwaltungsgebäude is an administrative building at Sternplatz in Dresden, spanning 96 meters in length with a tower reaching 37.46 meters high, built in concrete with expansive forms. The structure contains multiple office floors designed for insurance administration and service operations.
The building was constructed in 1912 on the grounds of a former cemetery and stands among the few structures that survived the 1945 bombing of Dresden. It remained standing alongside the Annenkirche while surrounding buildings were destroyed.
Two tuff stone sculptures at the entrance portal depict a nurse and a worker, with an Atlas figure positioned between the doors. These figures reflect the values placed on healthcare and labor that shaped the building's design.
The building is located at Sternplatz 7 and is easily reached by public transportation or on foot from the city center. The surrounding area offers parking options and connects easily to other nearby points of interest.
The construction of the building required participation from approximately 150 local companies in Dresden, reflecting the project's significance for the city. This widespread involvement demonstrates how closely the construction was tied to the local economy at the time.
