Alter Friedhof, Historical cemetery and park in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany.
The Alter Friedhof extends across 2.65 hectares of land, containing 1,200 gravestones arranged along winding paths surrounded by mature trees.
Established in 1683 as a replacement for the cemetery near St. Nicholas church, this burial ground served the community until its final interment in 1872.
The cemetery chapel displays detailed murals and houses a significant sandstone cross, transferred from the Freiburg Minster church square in 1786.
The grounds open from 7:00 to 20:00 between April and October, while winter hours run from 8:00 to 18:30 from November through March.
A restoration project in 2016 required temporary removal of 40 gravestones, including monuments marking the resting places of French general de Mirabeau and artist Wentzinger.
