Bahnhofstraße 1

Bahnhofstraße 1 is a timber-framed house with visible wooden beams arranged in geometric patterns across its facade, connected by traditional filling materials such as clay bricks or clay-straw mixture. The interior retains its original structure with wooden elements forming the building's load-bearing framework.

The house dates from the medieval period and represents an early form of timber-frame construction in Westphalia. Its construction methods show how building craftsmanship developed in this region over several centuries.

The house functioned as a tavern and is known locally as Alter Krug Helpup. It reveals how such establishments served as gathering places for the community and how craftspeople invested their skill into every aspect of the structure.

The building is located in the Helpup area near the railway station and is easy to view from the outside. Visitors should note that it is a private historical structure best observed from the street.

The wooden beams bear carpenter's marks that the original craftsman carved to indicate the correct position during assembly. These notches and markings are still visible in places today and tell of ancient building practices.
