Burg Dernbach, Medieval castle in Dernbach, Germany.
Burg Dernbach is a medieval castle in Dernbach featuring a rectangular layout with two surviving round corner towers. The structure occupies a roughly square footprint measuring about 100 meters on each side with preserved stone walls.
The castle was founded in 1213 by the Lords of Dernbach and later changed hands between various noble families. In 1722 it came under the control of the Electorate of Trier.
A notable religious carving depicting the sorrow of Mary was created in the chapel here during the early 15th century and later moved to Limburg's diocesan museum. This artwork shows the spiritual importance this castle held for local communities at that time.
The castle sits northwest of Schloss Montabaur and remains privately owned, so visitors should respect its residential nature. An exterior view still allows you to see the outer walls and distinctive corner towers from the surrounding area.
In its original form this water castle featured three round defense towers connected by high walls, with a surrounding moat providing extra protection. Only two of these towers have survived to the present day.
