Malberg, Mountain summit in Westerwaldkreis, Germany

The Malberg reaches an elevation of 422 meters, forming a prominent peak within the Montabaurer Senke region of Rhineland-Palatinate.

The mountain's formation dates back 18 to 25 million years when volcanic activity in the Westerwald region created this phonolitic lava dome.

Three prehistoric Celtic ring walls remain at the summit plateau, indicating early human settlements from the mid-first millennium BCE.

The Malberg nature reserve, established in 1961, covers 96 hectares and offers hiking opportunities through protected natural landscapes.

The western slope contains remnants of phonolite quarrying, a volcanic rock historically extracted for use in glass manufacturing.
