Initially constructed in 948 on the site of a Slavic fortress, the castle underwent major renovations in 1579 to become a hunting residence for Saxon princes.
The castle features a 40-meter-high tower with three-meter-thick walls and a distinctive onion-shaped dome that marks the regional architectural heritage.
The castle contains a hotel, restaurant, and an ecological brewery, offering visitors multiple services within its medieval fortification walls.
The building materials include quartzite stones from nearby quarries and repurposed elements from the demolished Plötzky monastery.
