Gommern

Gommern is an urban municipality in Jerichower Land located roughly 15 kilometers southeast of Magdeburg. The area brings together several formerly separate villages and settlements under one local administration.

The area has roots in settlements that developed during medieval times and shaped the region over centuries. In 2005, a major administrative reform merged several surrounding communities together.

Dornburg Palace nearby displays classical architecture from the 17th century and feels like a former seat of regional nobility. Today visitors can walk through the rooms and grounds to understand how aristocratic life unfolded in this area.

The town is easily reached by car or train and sits close enough to Magdeburg for a day trip. Local facilities and administration are available for both visitors and residents passing through.

Samuel Hahnemann, founder of homeopathy, worked as a physician in this area from 1782 to 1785 and developed his medical theories here. Those years proved crucial to creating a healing method that later spread worldwide.
