Marstallmuseum, Royal carriage museum at Nymphenburg Palace, Munich, Germany
The Marstallmuseum exhibits forty antique coaches, sleighs, and ceremonial carriages in the southern wing of Nymphenburg Palace, occupying former court stables.
The museum relocated to its current location in 1952 after the original collection from 1923 survived World War II by moving from central Munich.
The collection presents transportation methods of the Wittelsbach dynasty through three centuries, including Emperor Karl VII's coronation coach and Ludwig II's vehicles.
The museum offers combined tickets with Nymphenburg Palace, providing access to both the carriage collection and the Nymphenburg porcelain exhibition on the first floor.
The museum displays the complete ceremonial equipment for royal horses, including ornate harnesses, saddles, and accessories from different historical periods.

Munich can also be explored beyond the usual routes. This collection brings together places where visitors are fewer, but where the city shows itself differently. You’ll find baroque churches like the Asam Church, modern art museums such as Haus der Kunst or Lenbachhaus with its expressionist paintings, and ancient collections in Königsplatz. The city also hides unexpected surprises: the Eisbach wave in the middle of the English Garden, where people surf all year round, the roses in Westpark for a peaceful break, or the royal carriages in Nymphenburg Palace. Some monuments, like the Peace Angel, remind us of lesser-known parts of history. Each place tells a part of Munich that the usual guides don’t mention often.
