Oberfrankenhalle, Indoor arena in Bayreuth, Germany
Oberfrankenhalle is a multi-purpose indoor hall in Bayreuth, Bavaria, used for sports, concerts, and trade fairs. The wooden playing surface inside is marked for different sports, and the building includes two foyer areas with food and drink stands as well as a restaurant.
The hall opened in 1988 and was from the start the largest venue of its kind in the Upper Franconia region. A major renovation in 2013 updated its technical and structural setup to meet the demands of modern large-scale events.
The hall is the home court of Medi Bayreuth, a basketball club that plays at the top level of German professional basketball. On match days, the building fills with supporters and takes on a very different energy compared to its concert or trade fair events.
For busy events, arriving early is a good idea since parking nearby fills up fast. The two entrance areas help spread out the crowd, so getting inside is usually straightforward once you find your entry point.
Although the hall is best known for basketball, it has also hosted international boxing matches and concerts by major rock bands. The wooden floor can be fully covered over, so the space looks nothing like a sports venue when set up for other types of events.
