Lilliendal

Lilliendal is a neoclassical manor house in Vordingborg Municipality with several buildings spread across its grounds in southeastern Denmark. The main residence displays classical design features, while surrounding structures such as stables, farm buildings, and gardens demonstrate the layout of a traditional estate.

The estate was founded in the 1760s by naval officer Hans Gustav Lillienskiold on land that had previously held several farming villages. It later passed into the care of the Knuth family, who controlled it for nearly two centuries as a family inheritance.

The estate reflects the traditional Danish landed gentry system, where manor houses served as centers for rural communities and agricultural operations. Visitors can see how such properties organized daily life and economic activity across the countryside.

The manor house is located in the rural area southeast of Vordingborg and can be reached via local roads in the region. Since this is a private property, visitors should check access rules in advance before planning a visit.

The property was built on land that previously housed about ten farms and several cottage dwellings, marking the replacement of an older farming settlement. This pattern of transforming agricultural villages into grand estates became common practice in 18th-century Denmark.
