Vejle River, River system in Vejle Municipality, Denmark
Vejle River is a river system in Vejle Municipality that flows from Engelsholm Lake near Nørup village down to Vejle Fjord through a wide valley. The watercourse moves through varied terrain and forms a notable landscape feature across eastern Jutland.
The Vejle River valley formed during the last glacial period when glaciers advanced from the east and meltwater carved the landscape. This geological process created the terrain that shaped human settlement patterns in the region.
The river valley contains numerous archaeological discoveries, including the Bronze Age Egtved Girl burial site and the Iron Age Troldborg Ring fortification.
The lower section of this river flows through central Vejle, making it accessible to pedestrians exploring the town center. The upper reaches offer good conditions for fishing and nature walks.
The Vejle River Valley combined with Vejle Fjord forms eastern Jutland's longest tunnel valley, spanning 40 kilometers with a width reaching 2 kilometers.
