Grærup Strand, North Sea beach in Varde, Denmark
Grærup Strand is a broad North Sea beach located between Vejers and Henne, with soft sand dunes and direct access from the mainland. The coastline extends for several kilometers and offers open views of the sea and surrounding heath landscapes.
The settlement of Grærup was demolished in the 1960s to make way for a major military training area. This transformation opened the coastline to greater public access.
The beach maintains high environmental standards, receiving the Blue Flag certification for its water quality and safety measures for swimmers.
The beach is easily reached on foot, and the paths along the coast work for different fitness levels. Visitors should prepare for tidal conditions and changeable weather typical of the North Sea.
The beach connects to a large network of hiking paths that lead through dunes, heath, and mud flats. These paths reveal different habitats and let visitors explore far beyond the sandy shore.
