Maakri, Business subdistrict in Kesklinn, Estonia
Maakri is a modern business subdistrict in central Tallinn featuring glass and steel high-rise buildings that contain offices, hotels, and retail spaces. The numerous tall structures define the skyline and shape the character of the downtown area.
The name comes from the Macker family, who operated a painting workshop during the early development of the neighborhood. The area later developed into a major economic center.
The first Great Synagogue of Tallinn stood here from 1884 until 1944, marking the presence of Jewish religious life in the Estonian capital.
The area is easy to reach on foot and well connected to public transport, especially at the intersection of Tartu Road and Liivalaia Street. Parking is readily available throughout the district.
This area transformed from an industrial zone with paper and leather factories into Estonia's primary financial center. The present-day skyscrapers rise to heights exceeding 100 meters.
