Alchemist, Fine dining restaurant in Refshaleøen, Denmark
Alchemist is a restaurant set inside a former industrial building on Refshaleøen, a reclaimed harbour island in Copenhagen. It spans several rooms, each serving as a separate stage for individual courses paired with art installations and live performances.
The restaurant moved to Refshaleøen in 2019, taking over a large building that had been part of the old Copenhagen shipyards. The arrival of Alchemist helped draw attention to this waterfront area that had been largely unused for years.
The meal unfolds across several rooms where short performances touch on themes like food waste and human health. Moving from one space to the next, guests take part in something that feels closer to a stage show than a dinner.
Tables are released in batches every few months and fill up fast, so checking the booking calendar regularly is the best approach. Arriving on time matters since the evening follows a set sequence across multiple rooms.
The central dining dome is a large spherical ceiling that acts as a projection surface, surrounding guests with moving images during one of the courses. This makes the room feel more like the inside of a planetarium than a place to eat.
