Llotja de la Seda, Gothic civil building in Plaza del Mercado, Valencia, Spain
The Silk Exchange presents eight monumental columns supporting spiral vaults across three longitudinal naves and five transversal sections in the Trading Hall.
The construction of the Silk Exchange began in 1483 under architect Pere Compte, replacing a previous 14th-century structure dedicated to oil trading.
The Trading Hall features a golden inscription emphasizing the connection between commercial integrity and eternal prosperity for Mediterranean merchants.
The building maintains regular visiting hours from Monday through Saturday between 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM, with reduced schedules on Sundays.
The structure contains a former debtors prison and the Chapel of Immaculate Conception, demonstrating its multifunctional role beyond commercial activities.
