Dolmen of Menga

The Dolmen of Menga is a Neolithic burial chamber in Antequera made from stone blocks arranged in a rectangular shape. The structure stretches across a considerable length and sits beneath an earthen mound, creating an impressive archaeological site.

Construction of this monument took place between 3750 and 3650 BCE, making it one of the oldest and largest stone structures in Europe. This early origin demonstrates that Neolithic cultures possessed remarkable building capabilities.

The name comes from the town of Antequera where it stands and served as a burial place for many people in the community. Visitors today can still sense how this space was used as a gathering place for the dead.

A deep water well inside the chamber reveals that builders possessed exceptional engineering skills for water management. This technical achievement stands out as remarkable for its ancient period.
