Bodegas Güell, Modernist wine cellar in Sitges, Spain

Bodegas Güell is a triangular stone building featuring parabolic arches, exposed brickwork, and wrought iron details that blend Catalan Modernism with Art Nouveau style. The former wine cellar now operates as a restaurant serving regional Mediterranean cuisine.

Eusebi Güell commissioned Antoni Gaudí and Francesc Berenguer i Mestres to design this wine cellar, completed in 1901 near the Mediterranean coast. The project emerged during Catalonia's industrial boom, demonstrating how wealth and artistic innovation connected at that time.

The structure reflects how wealthy Catalan wine producers embraced modern design to showcase their craft. Walking through the curved spaces and exposed brick reveals how local tradition and artistic vision merged in this era.

The building sits along the coastal road between Barcelona and Sitges and is easily accessible. Keep in mind that the property functions primarily as a restaurant today, so it is worth checking ahead to learn when you can explore the architecture.

The building has an unusual form: a side wall merges with the roof into a single triangular prism resting on one of its faces. This geometric feature was a clever architectural solution for wine storage and ventilation.
