Praia de Samil

Praia de Samil is a beach on the Atlantic coast of Vigo with broad stretches of golden sand and views toward the Cíes Islands in the distance. The shoreline extends for about 1.2 km and is lined with an active waterfront area offering various facilities and amenities.

The area underwent substantial development during the 1970s as Vigo expanded its recreational facilities to accommodate growing visitor numbers. This period marked the beginning of the modern infrastructure that continues to define the beach today.

The beach serves as a gathering place for locals during summer months, when traditional Galician festivals featuring regional music and fresh seafood bring the community together.

The beach features swimming pools, sports courts, and multiple restaurants along its waterfront promenade to suit different visitor needs. Regular bus connections make it easy to reach from Vigo city center.

At the western end of the beach, the Lagares River flows into the Atlantic Ocean, creating a natural boundary where freshwater and saltwater meet. This transition point offers an interesting place for visitors to observe where river and ocean environments converge.
