Monte do Castro, Vigo

Monte do Castro is a hill rising above Vigo with multiple walking paths that connect various viewpoints across the terrain. From these points, visitors can look out toward the city, the bay, and the open ocean beyond.

The site served as a strategic location across centuries, particularly during conflicts between European powers fighting for control of the region. A fortification was built here in the 18th century to guard the waters below.

The mountain takes its name from ancient settlements that once dotted its slopes and surrounds. Walking here, you can sense the layers of human activity woven into the land across centuries.

The trails are easily walkable and feature informational panels along the way. Visit during clear weather when visibility stretches farthest across the city and water.
