Punta d'Astorg, Mountain summit in Benasque, Spain.
Punta d'Astorg is a granite summit in the Maladeta massif of the Spanish Pyrenees, standing at 3,355 meters. The mountain features steep rocky slopes and glaciated terrain typical of high alpine environments in this mountain range.
The first recorded ascent took place on July 9, 1901, when Count René d'Astorg and Henri Brulle reached the summit with two guides, giving the peak its name. This climb marked an important moment in the early mountaineering history of the central Pyrenees.
The summit forms part of the Posets-Maladeta Natural Park, where mountaineers gather throughout the year to practice alpine climbing techniques.
Access to the summit requires starting from Rencluse refuge and demands technical climbing skills to handle rock scrambling and possible glacial sections. Climbers need to prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions typical of high altitude environments in this region.
A distinctive granite monolith about two meters tall crowns the summit and is visible from a distance. The peak ranks as the second highest in the Maladeta massif, offering climbers a technically demanding alternative to nearby higher summits.
