Castell de Milmanda, Medieval castle in Vimbodí i Poblet, Spain
Castell de Milmanda is a Gothic stone fortress in the region featuring defensive towers, vaulted passageways, and pointed arches throughout its design. The complex spreads across multiple levels and blends robust medieval fortification features with residential spaces.
The first documented mention of Milmanda occurred in 1148 when Guerau de Granyena and his wife Sança transferred it to Arnau de Montpaó. This transfer marked the start of a long connection with the neighboring Poblet Abbey.
The coat of arms of Abbot Ponç de Copons above the main entrance shows the strong link to nearby Poblet Monastery. This marking reflects the religious importance the place held for the monastic community in medieval times.
The castle sits about 2 kilometers from Poblet Abbey, positioned between Vimbodí and L'Espluga de Francolí along the Francolí River. The location is accessible by road and offers clear views over the surrounding region.
The Torres wine company owns the castle and surrounding vineyards, producing white wines from grapes grown on the historical grounds. This blend of medieval architecture and modern wine production is rare and shapes how the place is used today.
