Palacio del rei Marti, Gothic palace within Poblet Monastery, Vimbodí i Poblet, Spain
Palacio del Rei Marti is a Gothic palace within Poblet Monastery in Vimbodí i Poblet, featuring five distinct Gothic windows across its facade. The structure spans multiple levels, each embellished with carved corbels depicting angels and dragons.
Construction began in 1397 under King Martin I of Aragon with architect Arnau Bargués overseeing the design. The project halted in 1406 and remained incomplete.
The royal hall reflects Catalan Gothic style through its use of large arches and sculptured details that visitors can observe directly. These design choices show how medieval rulers organized their ceremonial spaces.
The building is entered through a courtyard entrance near the oil press area. Stairs provide access to the upper levels where exhibits are displayed.
The rear facade preserves original medieval corbels and a central window that survived centuries of conflict and change. These features reveal the durability built into medieval construction methods.
