Yacimiento de La Caridad

Yacimiento de La Caridad is an archaeological site on a raised platform near the Jiloca River, where the remains of an ancient settlement are visible. The excavations have uncovered square houses arranged around central courtyards that preserve the architectural features of their time.

The settlement grew during the late iron age and became an important Celtiberian center before destruction came through military conflict. This destruction marked the end of this community and its way of life roughly 2000 years ago.

The excavated houses display a mixture of Roman and Celtiberian building styles that reflects the cultural blending of this period. In the living spaces, you can still see traces of a life that bridged two different worlds.

An interpretation center in Caminreal offers detailed information about life in this region during ancient times. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since the site sits on elevated terrain and walking across the grounds is necessary.

In a well-preserved room, an Iberian inscription is carved into a Roman mosaic made of white limestone tiles, revealing cultural fusion. This combination is rare and shows how two populations lived alongside each other and mingled their writing systems.
