Kukkarokivi

Kukkarokivi is a glacial boulder located near Turku's coast with impressive dimensions of 17 meters in height and 27 meters in length. The massive stone rises approximately 12 meters above the water surface and dominates the local landscape.

From 1845 to 1852, several artists documented this boulder through detailed drawings during the 19th century. These early artistic records marked the beginning of its recognition as a natural landmark.

Local folklore describes how giants once hurled this massive stone across the landscape in anger. The rock remains a piece of that ancient storytelling tradition that people remember and pass down.

When the sea freezes during winter months, visitors can walk approximately 600 meters across the ice from Saaronniemi beach to reach the boulder. Always check ice conditions before venturing across the frozen surface.

The rock's surface bears carvings from different periods, with the most recent engravings dating to the 1940s. These names and symbols etched into the stone record the visits of people across generations.
