Kellokoski Hospital Museum

Kellokoski Hospital Museum is housed in a blue wooden building within the hospital grounds and displays medical equipment along with treatment methods from different eras. The collection documents developments in psychiatric care and shows how medical practices changed over the decades.

The museum was established in 1973 and traces the history of psychiatric care from the hospital's founding in 1915. The collection covers the difficult wartime period when the institution operated under significant strain.

The exhibition displays personal items and handmade creations produced by former patients during their work therapy sessions, showing their creative expression. These objects offer insight into the daily experiences of people who received care at the hospital.

The museum operates from June through August with free entry and daily guided tours available. Tours are conducted in Finnish and typically include a visit to the chapel located on the hospital grounds.

The collection includes medical instruments such as lobotomy tools and electroshock devices that reveal how extreme past psychiatric treatments were. These objects show the dramatic transformation that mental healthcare has undergone.
