Mont de Besneville, Hill in Besneville, Normandy, France

Mont de Besneville is a hill in the village of Besneville, in the Normandy region of northern France, rising to around 375 feet (115 meters). Its summit is home to three old windmills and is surrounded by heathland and open grass, with views stretching across the bocage countryside and toward the coast on clear days.

The three windmills on the summit were built in earlier centuries to grind grain from the surrounding farms. After World War II, one of them was converted into a chapel, giving the site a new role for the local community.

At the top stands an old windmill that was converted into a small chapel after World War II and remains open to visitors today. A second mill now holds an orientation table that helps identify the surrounding villages, beaches, and on a clear day even the Channel Islands.

The hill is easy to reach by car or on foot from the village of Besneville, and the slope is gentle enough for most visitors. At the top there is a picnic table, and several marked paths wind through the surrounding heathland.

On a clear day, the Channel Islands are visible from the summit even though the hill only reaches about 375 feet (115 meters). This is possible because the flat, open land of the Cotentin peninsula leaves nothing to block the view toward the sea.
