Municipal Borough of Uxbridge, Former municipal borough in Middlesex, England

The Municipal Borough of Uxbridge was an administrative district in northwest Middlesex covering several parishes, including Uxbridge, Cowley, Harefield, Hillingdon East and West, and Ickenham. The area it governed is now part of the London Borough of Hillingdon.

The area was established in 1849 as one of the first English towns to adopt the Public Health Act of 1848, giving it an early role in local government reform. A formal charter of incorporation followed in 1955, just a decade before it was absorbed into the London Borough of Hillingdon in 1965.

The council first met on the upper floor of Uxbridge Market House before moving in 1927 to a converted house called Southfields on the High Street. That building served as the seat of local government for the borough throughout most of its existence.

The former borough no longer exists as a separate administrative unit and its boundaries have been absorbed into the London Borough of Hillingdon. Anyone curious about the area's past can explore the town of Uxbridge and its surrounding villages, which still reflect the layout of the old district.

Although the area had been governing itself since 1849, it did not receive its formal charter as a municipal borough until 1955, making it one of the last places in England to gain that status. It then existed as an official borough for only ten years before the 1965 reorganization ended that designation entirely.
