Admiralty Pier Turret, Battery tower at Dover Harbor, United Kingdom
The Admiralty Pier Turret features two Fraser RML 16-inch guns mounted within an enclosed armored structure on Dover's western breakwater.
Construction of the fortification began in 1872, with the substructure completed by January 1874 at a cost of nineteen thousand British pounds.
The turret transitioned between World Wars from an active military installation to residential quarters for battery caretakers who maintained the preserved guns.
While closed to public access, visitors can observe the external structure of the turret from the Prince of Wales pier during daytime hours.
The installation contains the largest guns ever placed in the United Kingdom, with each weapon weighing 81 tons and rotating on 32 mechanical rollers.
