Beaufront Castle, Grade I listed castle in Sandhoe, England.
Beaufront Castle is a Gothic revival country house in Sandhoe, Northumberland, England, built in stone and featuring castellated walls and a prominent clock tower. The house sits on elevated ground between the villages of Anick and Sandhoe, surrounded by parkland enclosed within fortified outer walls.
A tower stood on this site as early as 1415, making it one of the older recorded structures in this part of Northumberland. The present building replaced it between 1836 and 1841, designed by architect John Dobson for the owner of the property at the time.
The clock tower is one of the most visible features from the road, rising above the castellated walls and drawing the eye immediately. Locals and visitors alike often stop along the lane to take in the view of the tower and the stonework surrounding it.
The castle is privately owned and not open to the public, so visitors can only view it from the road nearby. The lane between Anick and Sandhoe offers the clearest view of the tower and the outer walls.
A bell cast in 1694 still hangs inside the clock tower, carried over from the older structure that stood here before the current building was constructed. It is considerably older than the rest of the house and predates it by well over a century.
