Blakeney Guildhall is a medieval gildehouse built with brick featuring a vaulted basement beneath. Stone pillars support the undercroft, and the structure retains original doorways and windows from when it was first constructed.
The structure was built in the 14th century initially as a merchant's home. It later became a gathering place for the local guild of fish merchants.
The building shows how fishing and maritime trade shaped Blakeney's identity and brought prosperity to the community. Its location by the harbor made it the natural center where merchants gathered to conduct business.
The building sits at the corner of Back Lane and High Street and is easy to locate. Parking spaces are available along the High Street nearby.
During World War II, the basement served as a mortuary for sailors who died at sea. This shows how important the building was to the community during difficult times.
