Brogyntyn, English country house in Selattyn, England.
Brogyntyn is a brick mansion featuring a grand portico with four Ionic columns, set within a registered park and garden landscape. The property spans across 1,445 acres and includes several structures typical of a large historic estate.
The property was first occupied by the Maurice family in the sixteenth century and later came under the ownership of the Ormsby-Gore family from 1815 onwards. These successive owners shaped the house and grounds over nearly five centuries.
The estate once housed a significant collection of Welsh language manuscripts that are now held at the National Library of Wales. This collection reveals how the property served as a repository for local literary traditions and intellectual life.
Access to the property is limited due to ongoing repairs and planned housing development on the grounds. It is best to check ahead about visiting opportunities, as the estate is not always open to casual visitors.
The entrance hall contains an ornate fireplace from 1617 that survives as a rare architectural artifact from the early seventeenth century. This feature demonstrates how the house has accumulated layers of design and renovation while preserving fragments from its earliest period.
