Dunton Technical Centre, Research center in Dunton Wayletts, Essex, United Kingdom
Dunton Technical Centre is a research facility in Dunton Wayletts, Essex, spreading across four floors and including testing installations for automotive development. The complex has laboratories, design studios, and a dedicated test track where prototypes are evaluated.
Harold Wilson opened the center in October 1967 as one of the largest European sites for vehicle research. Since then, the complex has been expanded several times to integrate new technologies and testing procedures.
The center takes its name from the rural location of Dunton and links engineering research with the Essex countryside. Engineers work in teams that cover different areas of vehicle development, from the first sketch to the final inspection.
The center is a closed research facility without regular public access, as working areas are geared toward development procedures. Visits are possible only during special events or with prior authorization.
During the health crisis in 2020, engineers from the center provided their skills for the manufacture of ventilators. These devices were delivered to the national health service to support hospitals in caring for patients.
