Devil's Quoits, Stone circle and henge in Stanton Harcourt, England

The Devil's Quoits consists of 28 conglomerate stones arranged in a circle, surrounded by an earthen bank and internal ditch with east-west entrances.

The site dates from the late Neolithic period, between 4000 and 5000 years ago, and underwent significant changes during World War II when the area became an airfield.

Local folklore tells of the Devil playing quoits with a beggar for his soul, throwing stones from Wytham Hill to create the circle.

The monument can be reached by following a gravel footpath from the car park near the recycling bins, south of Stanton Harcourt village.

The entire site underwent reconstruction between 2002 and 2008, using stones from a nearby Ducklington quarry to replace missing ancient ones.
