The current building dates from 1232, with written records indicating an indulgence issued for fabric repairs during that same year.
The Parr Chapel contains the tomb of William Parr, Baron Parr of Kendal, grandfather of Catherine Parr who became the last queen of Henry VIII.
The church maintains regular opening hours from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday through Saturday, and 8:00 am to 3:00 pm on Sundays.
The church houses two distinct organs: a main organ by J.W. Walker from 1969 and a choir organ by Bevington dating to approximately 1885.
