Museum of Lakeland Life, Local museum in Kendal, England.

The Museum of Lakeland Life occupies the original Georgian stables of Abbot Hall Art Gallery and displays objects from the Lake District region. The collection includes farming and craft tools as well as household furnishings that document local history.

The museum opened in 1971 and was inaugurated by Princess Alexandra. It soon earned recognition as the first Museum of the Year in the United Kingdom in 1973.

The displays show traditional farming tools and home objects that shaped everyday life in the Lake District. You can see how people worked and lived in this region across different periods.

The museum is currently closed for renovation work and shares updates about reopening through its newsletter. Contact the venue directly for current information on access and planned opening dates.

The building serves as the registered office for the Arthur Ransome Society and holds a collection dedicated to the author. This connection links literary history with regional heritage in one location.
