The building underwent major renovation in 1886 under Henry Boddington's ownership, with Manchester architect William Ball directing the transformation. This modernization blended its Georgian origins with contemporary artistic influences that shape its appearance today.

The interior designs were created by artists associated with the Century Guild, which began its work in 1882 under A. H. Mackmurdo's direction. This artistic collaboration gave the place a distinctive character that visitors can still sense throughout its rooms.

The place is not open for casual visits since it functions as a school building and hosts private events. Those interested can view the property from outside to appreciate its architectural features and red sandstone facade.

The building holds Grade II* listing status, officially recognizing it as nationally important for architecture. This high classification reflects its successful blend of different design styles that sets it apart from other country homes of its era.
