Preston Mill, 18th century watermill in East Linton, Scotland.
Preston Mill is a grain mill located beside the River Tyne in East Linton, built from stone with a distinctive red conical roof. A large wooden wheel powered by flowing water drives the internal mechanisms that grind grain into flour.
The mill was established in the 1500s and ground oats and barley for local people over 400 years. It ceased operation in 1959 as the region's final commercial water-powered facility.
The National Trust for Scotland maintains this mill as a museum, offering tours that demonstrate traditional grain processing methods used by Scottish agricultural communities.
The mill is located in a quiet area near the village of East Linton and is easy to reach. Wear comfortable shoes since visiting involves going inside the buildings and exploring around the water wheel.
The location served as a filming site for the television series Outlander, with scenes shot at the water wheel and pond. The place gained attention among fans of the series for its appearance in early episodes.
