Repentance Tower, Stone watchtower near Cummertrees, Scotland.

The three-story stone tower contains gun loops, shot holes, small windows, and a first-floor entrance measuring approximately 30 feet in height.

John Maxwell constructed the defensive watchtower in 1565, using materials from a nearby chapel that was demolished in 1574.

Walter Scott incorporated traditions connected to the tower in his literary work Minstrelsy of the Scottish Border during the 19th century.

Access to the tower requires walking across steep-sloped fields with grazing livestock, and appropriate footwear is necessary for muddy conditions.

The word Repentance remains carved in stone above the entrance, leading to various theories about the origin of the tower's name.
