St John the Baptist's Church, Knutsford, Anglican church in Knutsford, England
St John the Baptist's Church is an Anglican place of worship in Knutsford, featuring Neoclassical design with a west tower, two-storey nave, and shallow chancel. The building is constructed from brick with stone detailing, creating a balanced and orderly appearance.
Construction took place between 1741 and 1744 under architect J. Garlive. The interior was significantly reshaped during restoration work by Alfred Darbyshire in 1879.
The interior showcases classical arcades held up by Tuscan columns, with galleries wrapping around three sides of the space. Stained glass windows created by Heaton, Butler and Bayne add color and light throughout the worship area.
The church is primarily accessible during worship services. Check ahead for visiting hours to ensure you can see the interior, as access may be limited outside of scheduled gatherings.
Inside, you will find two baptismal fonts: one dates from the original construction and another was added in 1865. Six bells cast by the foundry Rudhall of Gloucester hang in the tower, each with its own tone.
