Mansion House, Swansea, Gothic Revival residence in Ffynone Road, Swansea, Wales
Mansion House is a Gothic Revival building on Ffynone Road in Swansea with six bays facing the street and a distinctive octagonal tower topped with a spire. The bay windows feature pointed architectural details that define the structure's overall neogothic character.
The building was constructed in 1863 by Evan Matthew Richards and initially served as lodgings for judges. In 1922 it became the official residence of the Lord Mayor of Swansea.
The interior displays items from the Vivian Collection, including period furniture and paintings that reflect Welsh artistic traditions. Visitors encounter these pieces displayed within the elegant rooms where they were originally intended to be seen.
Access to the building is available during special events and guided tours that typically require advance booking. Contact local tourism offices for current information about opening times and what events are available for visitors.
Two brass cannons cast in 1804 at the Royal Arsenal in Woolwich stand on the terrace, remnants of Napoleonic War preparations. These artillery pieces testify to Britain's defense readiness during that turbulent historical moment.
