Ballycopeland Windmill, Historic windmill in Millisle, Northern Ireland.
Ballycopeland Windmill is a grain mill tower in Millisle, County Down, with white-washed walls, rotating sails, and a conical roof structure. The mill sits alongside a supporting stone building that once housed the corn-drying equipment.
The mill operated under the McGilton family until ownership changed in 1915. The Northern Ireland government took control in 1935 and carried out major restoration work in 1978.
The mill shows how local people once processed grain on their own land through its original milling machinery and traditional corn-drying setup that you can observe inside.
The site is easy to reach and explore on your own, with most areas open to walk through at your pace. You can see both the main mill tower and the supporting building in a relaxed visit.
This is the last surviving windmill among more than a hundred mills that once worked in County Down, making it an exceptionally rare survivor of the region's grain-milling heritage.
