St Paul Parish Church, Grange-over-Sands, grade II listed church in the United kingdom
St Paul Parish Church is a Gothic Revival church building located on Church Hill in Grange-over-Sands. The structure features pointed arches, stained glass windows, a tower with a small spire, and an interior divided by polished stone columns into a main nave and side aisles lined with wooden pews.
The church was founded in 1853 after Susannah Newby donated part of her garden for construction. Architect J Murray designed the original building, which was later extended with a north aisle and west porch to accommodate the growing congregation.
The church is dedicated to Saint Paul, a name that remains central to the local community's religious identity. The warm honey-colored oak throughout the interior creates a welcoming space where visitors immediately feel the building's role as a gathering place for worship and reflection.
The church is open from Monday to Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm, and sits on Church Hill within walking distance of the town center. Nearby toilets and parking within about 250 meters (820 feet) make it easy to visit, and dogs are welcome on the grounds.
A memorial inside honors Evan Leigh, who drowned in 1915 when the ship Lusitania was sunk by a German submarine, connecting the church to a major historical event. This attack marked the first time a ship was targeted by submarine warfare during wartime.
