St Michael's Church, Aughton, Medieval parish church in Aughton, England.
St Michael's Church is a parish church built from grey-brown sandstone with a prominent tower that transforms into an octagonal bell stage crowned by a spire. The building displays Gothic features mixed with Norman elements and later architectural additions.
The church began around 1150, with its oldest sections containing a sealed Norman doorway still visible on the walls. Later periods brought Gothic modifications that shaped the building as it appears today.
Inside, visitors can see an octagonal font carved in Decorated style and fragments of medieval stained glass in the windows. Angels carved into stone corbels appear to support the roof above the choir.
The church sits on Church Lane in Aughton and is accessible from the road, though it remains an active place of worship with regular services. Visitors should be respectful of ongoing activities inside.
The churchyard preserves the sandstone base of a medieval cross and holds graves of soldiers from both World Wars. This quiet spot brings together different layers of local history in one place.
